Miles that Matter’ in the Community

Community impact is often strongest when it’s simply about quietly getting things done. Over the past year, Euston Lodge Worshipful Master Chris Elt has been at the forefront in supporting community charities. These include St Neots Upside Down Sports Club, Three Pillars Feeding the Homeless, Priory Parkside Youth FC, St Neots Acorn Cancer Group, The Cambridge Heart Beats, The Angels Foundation, The Caring Together Charity, and the Coffee Pot Memory Café.

He shows how Freemasonry can be more than just ceremony: it provides help to local communities where it matters most.

It doesn’t end with donations. Freemasonry also involves service, and Chris has turned support into action. He is now a permanent volunteer at St Neots Upside Down Sports Club, where an upcoming initiative is about to launch: a weekly sports session for local children aged 10+ who are experiencing mild to moderate mental health challenges, providing a safe, positive environment where movement and community can genuinely improve wellbeing.

He also coaches free triathlon training for local juniors, helping young people access structured sport, build confidence, and develop resilience.

Now comes his biggest challenge. On Saturday, 13 June 2026, Chris will attempt “Miles That Matter”, a solo, continuous Double Ironman: a 4.7-mile swim at Jesus Green Lido in Cambridge, then a 224-mile bike segment based around Great Staughton, followed by a 52-mile run at Grafham Water. Raising money for two great local charities, The Road Victims Trust, and St Neots Upside Down Sports Club.

It’s an extraordinary endurance challenge with a simple message at its core: Freemasonry is in the community, mobilising support, and turning determination into meaningful help for others.
