Members of Sothius Lodge visited St Ives Young Carers last week to present a donation of nearly £2,000 in support of the vital work carried out across the town.
St Ives Young Carers provide essential support to a significant number of children who shoulder caring responsibilities at home — the youngest being just five years old. With no central funding available for under-18 carers, the organisation relies entirely on charitable contributions to continue its work.
Working closely with Thorndown and Wheatfield Primary Schools, and St Ivo Academy, the charity currently supports around 35–40 young carers. Their St Ives office hosts a wide range of activities and workshops, including Christmas events, Young Carers Forum sessions, and regular support programmes.
Said Lynette ‘This donation will go towards the paddleboarding, and farm excursions planned for the May half term. It gives these young children a short respite from their caring duties and an opportunity to share the experiences others take for granted. We truly appreciate the help we get from the entire Masonic movement’.
