Members of St Ivo Lodge in St Ives have continued their support for local young carers with a recent donation to Caring Together, a charity that works with young people who help look after family members.
Funds were raised through a lodge barbecue, kindly hosted by member Spencer Ambrose at his home, and during the lodge’s Christmas festival celebrations. The money will enable Caring Together to organise an “Eat and Bowl” evening and a visit to Skylark Farm for the young carers they support.
These activities provide an important opportunity for young people to take a break from the significant responsibilities they carry at home. Many of the children supported by the charity help care for parents or siblings on a daily basis, and some are as young as five years old.
Unlike many services, Caring Together’s Young Carers programme receives no central government funding and relies entirely on sponsorships and donations to continue its work.
Representatives from the lodge recently met with Laura, Community Fund Manager, and Lynette, Community Fund Fundraiser at Caring Together, to present the donation and learn more about the difference it will make locally.
