In January 2020, Thrapston-based Chicheley Lodge No. 607 was approached by a young lady, Zantay Revell, who requested financial assistance so that she could take part in a volunteering trip to Borneo organised by Camps International on behalf of her school.

Zantay explained that she would be involved in rural community projects aimed at improving access to education, healthcare and clean water; also, projects tackling environmental issues.

Notwithstanding that Zantay had already raised £800 towards the trip, the Lodge Committee agreed to provide additional funding by sponsoring Zantay’s t‑shirt, which was to have displayed the Masonic logo together with wording approved by the Provincial Grand Master.

Regrettably the trip, which was due to have taken place this year, had to be cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions.

To her absolute credit, Zantay decided to support local charities instead. In particular, a much-needed storage facility for the Thrapston Food Bank (registered charity no. 1154210).

Consequently, a joint donation of £300 comprising £150 from Zantay plus a further £150 from the Lodge was topped-up to grand total of £600 by the Provincial Grand Charity

On Thursday the 24th of June 2021, WBro David Redden, Chicheley Lodge’s charity steward, was pleased to present Zantay with a cheque for the total amount made payable to Thrapston Food Bank.

Zantay told WBro David that she hoped the money raised would prompt further donations from local businesses and elsewhere.

We congratulate Zantay and Chicheley Lodge for supporting such a worthwhile charity, one that greatly benefits the local community.
