WBro Ken Bacon PAGDC

Ken was born in Kettering in 1930. He attended school there until the age of 14, at which point he left and worked on the railways for a short time.

Ken subsequently entered National Service and served in the Special Investigation Branch of the Royal Military Police.

At the end of his service, Ken worked at Stewarts and Lloyds in Corby. The company subsequently closed at which point Ken continued to work in the steel industry, albeit in a self-employed capacity.

Ken was very much involved in public and political life in Kettering. He served as a councillor and was Mayor in 1980. He was also a councillor of St Peter and St Paul Church, where it's well known that he continued attending even when life proved difficult for him.

Happily married, Ken leaves his wife Joan and his five children, who are now spread over the globe.

Ken very much enjoyed football. Playing at United Counties Level, he was the League Secretary in the 1970s. He was also a keen fan of Kettering Football Club ("The Poppies").

Ken was initiated into St Crispin Lodge No. 5627 on the 12th of March 1971. He became Master in 1981.

Ken was also a joining member of Northants & Hunts Lodge of Installed Masters No. 3422; he served as Chaplain in 2009.

Ken received his first Craft Provincial appointment in 1987, when he was made active Provincial Grand Standard Bearer. He rose through the ranks becoming Past Provincial Senior Grand Warden in 1999. He was made Group Officer in 2004, the same year he received promotion to Grand Rank as Past Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies.

Ken was exalted into St. Crispin Chapter No. 5627 in 1975 becoming MEZ in 1990, Ken also became a joining member of Northants & Hunts Chapter of First Principals No. 3422 in 1991; he became MEZ in 2008.

Ken was awarded his first Provincial Grand Chapter rank of active Provincial Grand Sojourner in 1993. He was subsequently appointed as Provincial Grand Scribe E in June 1995 and as Deputy Grand Superintendent in June 2000, retiring from that office in June 2006. He received his first Supreme Grand Chapter appointment in 1998, eventually becoming Past Grand Sword Bearer in 2002.

Ken was a member of many other orders and received the equivalent of Grand Rank in all of them.

Ken was an exceptional hard-working and well-respected Mason, one who contributed a great deal to the Province. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
