The former Conductor of the Masonic Male Voice Choir, Bro Max Dolby, retired at the end of July 2007. He made the weekly journey from Hunstanton for 8 years to supervise our Monday evening rehearsals in Peterborough. We are most grateful for his unfailing devotion and wish him a happy retirement. We welcome Bro Geoff Green, the young music teacher who has stepped in to fill the post.

Of recent years the low number of surviving members has been a cause of great concern but following a recruiting campaign this situation has been somewhat alleviated. We have been pleased to welcome a few new singers, especially those who dramatically reduced the Choir's average age! Further recruitment is essential, however, if the Choir is to continue with its mission both to support Provincial events and to act as ambassadors for the Craft.

Performances in 2006-2007 have included

  • Service for the Licensing and Installation of a new priest at Exton by the Bishop.
  • Service for Daventry Masons.
  • Carol Service for Norfolk Masons at St. Edmund's Church in Hunstanton (at which we also dedicated a music stand to the memory of our former secretary, the late W Bro Peter Wright).

The Tip of the Iceberg" lecture was given to Pro Musica Lodge No 9547 and their Ladies' at Long Sutton Masonic Hall to an audience of 106, including a large number of guests from the Province of Lincolnshire. The Choir's CD of the lecture music continues to sell. Part of the profits will again be used to help a promising young singer to attend an international singing school.

The Choir has continued to attend the regular meetings of Pro Music Lodge to provide music for the ceremonies and again led the singing at a Consecration, that of Wilavestone Lodge No 9829 in Northampton.

Music is one of the "liberal arts" which Masons are exhorted to study. The Choir offers Brethren with a love of music an excellent opportunity to do so.

We are always looking for new recruits, and would particularly welcome any younger Brethren who love the joy of singing - or indeed from any who would like to learn to sing. The Choir is self-funding. Most of the £20 annual subscription is used to buy new music.

Please note that although Pro Musica Lodge was originally founded by Choir members to celebrate the Choir's tenth anniversary, they have always been entirely separate entities, and membership of one does not require, or imply, membership of the other.
